Summary

  • The Production Paint Applicator is a Skilled Position responsible for applying various finishes, including primers and sealers, to windows, doors, parts, and other structures. The role requires working in high temperatures and humidity, preparing surfaces for painting, and ensuring high- quality finishes.

What You'll Do

  • Apply various finishes, including primers and sealers, to windows, doors, parts, and other structures.
  • Ensure even and smooth application of coatings, meeting company quality standards.
  • Perform touch-ups and corrections as needed to achieve a flawless finish.
  • Prepare, clean, and tape units for painting.
  • Remove old paint coatings when necessary.
  • Mix colors and accelerators to achieve the desired color or consistency.
  • Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Maintain and clean painting equipment, tools, and work area to ensure efficient operation and prevent contamination.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the Production Supervisor.
  • Work in high temperatures and humidity (100 degrees Fahrenheit plus) for 8 hours plus daily.
  • Ensure the paint booth temperature is over 60 degrees Fahrenheit; turn on the heater if ncessary.
  • Verify humidity levels are between 20 percent and 50 percent; adjust as The ideal temperature is 80 degrees Fahrenheit with 30 percent humidity, with no more than a 50 percent difference.
  • Ensure the drying enclosure booth temperature is between 100 degrees Fahrenheit and 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Verify secondary paint containers have the correct paint color and date (less than 2 years old).
  • Ensure open paint gallons with accelerators have not been open for more than 30 days.
  • Check the air hose, spray gun, and other equipment for proper operation.
  • Verify the color on the frame label matches the identified frame color.
  • Check the taping of windows and inspect for flaws.
  • Ensure filters are changed, floors are vacuumed, and equipment is cleaned regularly.
  • Verify the correct color paint is in the spray gun container and ensure gun pressure is at 38 PSI.
  • Purge the spray gun when changing colors and clean it every 2 hours.
  • Move necessary materials around the job site as assigned.
  • Move windows ready for spraying into the spray booth and transfer painted windows to the drying enclosure after spraying and flashing off.
  • Clean the booth, change filters, and vacuum the floor at the end of the day.
  • Fill out the VOC Log accurately and timely.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and handle materials in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures, and regulations.

 

Who You Are

  • A Minimum of 3 years of previous painting experience required; automotive experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with painting tools and equipment; Gravity Gun experience is required.
  • Expertise in applying various finishes, including primers and sealers.
  • Proficient in mixing colors and accelerators.
  • Ability to produce high-quality finishes through careful inspection and adherence to standards.
  • Ability to operate various spray guns and equipment.
  • Familiarity with different types of paints, coatings, and application techniques is advantageous.
  • Capable of receiving and following instructions and communicating effectively with co-workers.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to read and adhere to labels, safety warnings, and guidelines.
  • Attentive to detail and always alert to ensure safetly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

 EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational training or certification in painting or a related field is a plus.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of standing, using tools, and performing repetitive actions.
  • Frequent bending and stooping.
  • Capability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 pounts.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY:

  • Ability to work in high temperatures and humidity (100 degrees Fahrenheit plus) for extended periods (8 hours plus daily).
  • Competence in ensuring optimal paint booth temperature and humidity levels.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to paint fumes and other chemicals.
